FAQsFrequently Asked Questions
When should we consult a fertility specialist?
Fertility evaluation is generally advised after 12 months of regular unprotected intercourse when the woman is under 35, after 6 months from age 35, and more immediately over 40. Seek earlier review if periods are irregular or absent, endometriosis or tubal or pelvic disease is suspected, either partner has a known fertility risk, or there has been treatment that may affect fertility.
Does infertility always mean IVF is required?
No. Depending on the findings and circumstances, options may include time-limited expectant management, timed intercourse, ovulation induction, IUI, treatment of a defined condition or IVF. Lifestyle support may accompany care, but it should not replace or delay an indicated fertility evaluation.
How is infertility evaluated?
Evaluation is selected from the history and usually considers both partners. It may include semen analysis, review of ovulation and menstrual cycles, ultrasound, tubal or uterine assessment and targeted blood tests. Not everyone needs every test.
What is unexplained infertility?
Unexplained infertility is used when pregnancy has not occurred and an appropriate standard assessment—including ovulation, semen and tubal evaluation, with uterine or pelvic assessment when indicated—has not found a clear cause. It is a real clinical category, and the plan depends on age, duration, history and preferences.
Can age affect fertility?
Female fertility declines with age, with a more rapid change from the mid-thirties. Timing matters, but age does not determine an individual outcome. Evaluation is usually advised after 12 months below age 35, after 6 months from age 35, and more promptly over age 40 or when another fertility risk is present.
What is ovarian reserve?
Ovarian reserve estimates aspects of the remaining egg pool and likely response to ovarian stimulation. AMH and antral follicle count do not directly measure egg quality and cannot independently predict natural conception.
