FAQsFrequently Asked Questions
How often should I visit during pregnancy?
Contact the pregnancy-care team early in the first trimester. The schedule is individualized by gestation and risk; the WHO model uses at least eight antenatal contacts for an uncomplicated pregnancy, while medical conditions or pregnancy findings may require more.
When should I first see a doctor after a positive pregnancy test?
Contact the clinic soon after a positive test to arrange first-trimester care and review medicines. Seek earlier or urgent assessment for pain, bleeding, faintness, severe vomiting, a previous ectopic pregnancy, significant medical disease or another concerning symptom.
What foods should be avoided during pregnancy?
Avoid alcohol, raw or undercooked animal products and unpasteurized foods, and follow safe food preparation and storage. A commonly recommended caffeine limit is below 200 mg per day from all sources. Fish can be beneficial, but high-mercury choices should be avoided according to verified local advice.
Can I exercise during pregnancy?
In an uncomplicated pregnancy, regular moderate activity is usually safe after discussion with the maternity team; many guidelines use about 150 minutes per week as a goal. Activities with a high risk of falls, abdominal trauma, overheating or scuba diving should be avoided, and warning symptoms should stop exercise and prompt advice.
Is travel safe during pregnancy?
Travel is often possible in an uncomplicated pregnancy, but safety depends on gestation, complications, destination, journey length and airline rules. Discuss longer trips, use the seat belt correctly, move and hydrate during prolonged travel, and avoid travel when conditions such as pre-eclampsia, ruptured membranes or preterm labour make it unsafe.
Can I have a vaginal birth after a previous Caesarean?
Some people with a previous Caesarean may be candidates for vaginal birth after Caesarean, or VBAC. Suitability depends on the previous uterine incision, number of Caesareans, prior vaginal birth, current pregnancy, preferences and access to immediate emergency Caesarean capability. The uncommon but serious risk of uterine rupture and induction options require individual counselling.
What warning signs require urgent medical attention?
Seek immediate in-person assessment for vaginal bleeding more than light spotting, fluid leakage, severe or persistent pain, a marked reduction in fetal movement, severe headache, visual change, seizures, chest pain, breathing difficulty, fainting, fever, severe one-sided limb swelling or a strong sense that something is seriously wrong. Do not wait for WhatsApp or a routine appointment.
What supplements are important during pregnancy?
Folic acid is important before conception and in early pregnancy. Iron, calcium, vitamin D, vitamin B12, iodine and other supplements depend on diet, test results, history and the local antenatal protocol. Do not copy another person’s dose or combine products without review.
